Macau and Australia

(au) means "deep harbor" and is the abbreviation for either Australia or Macau, because of the sound.  It is a similar but different character than , the harbor that refers to Hong Kong.

(men) means "door, or gate"

(men) is the same thing, more formal.

澳門 (au-men) means Macau.  (The gateway to the harbor)

港澳 (gang-au) means both Hong Kong and Macau.

澳門圓 (au-men-yuan) is the Macanese pataca.

(zhou) is continent or island.

  (au-zhou) means Australia, the continent

(da) means "big" 

(li) means "benefit or profit"

(ya) means "Asia" or "second" or "inferior"

澳大利亚 (au-da-li-ya) is "Australia".  The audaliya is literally, the big profitable harbor in Asia.

澳大利亚元 is the Australian dollar
